Ground breaking record..this is the album that brought rap into the mainstream.. it made record executives sit up and that notice that millions would be made.

Probably a little more street cred with the brothers if you spell his name correctly.

Always liked Cube. Hate rap, but he showed that he was no dummy. Got out of that trash music, and became a half ass actor. Dude has always spoke his mind.

And one may argue the downfall of civilization...On a side note Debbie Harry may have been one to " bring rap into the mainstream."

Rapture by Blondie was the first song with a rap to go No. 1, spending two weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

"Rapture" is a song by the American pop/rock band Blondie from their fifth studio album, Autoamerican (1980).
In January 1981, "Rapture" was released as the second and final single from the album. The song became their fourth and last single to reach No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it stayed for two weeks. It was the first No. 1 song in the U.S. to feature rap vocals. The song peaked at No. 4 in Australia and No. 5 in the United Kingdom.

Solid point regardless of the spelling and thanks for posting. I'd rather think of the Sugarhill Gang as responsible for the crossover rather than Deborah Harry although, at the time, Rapture was an interesting song and video. Saw Blondie a couple years ago...would not recommend.
